Who's the best VC in town?

By Marcelo Calbucci

logo

    A recently release website called The Funded is aiming at rating and reviewing VCs. entrepreneurs register and leave their anonymous feedback and rating.

    If you are an entrepreneur and is in the process of raising money this site can be quite addictive.

    The Seattle area VCs are not doing well. Here is the ratings of the major ones (in a scale of 1.0 to 5.0):

  • Fluke Venture Partners: 1.0
  • Ignition Partners: 1.6
  • Madrona Venture Group: 2.1
  • Maveron: 3.0
  • OVP Venture Parnters: 3.3
  • Vulcan Capital: 2.4

    Most of these VCs had just one or two people rating them and the disgruntled is more likely to bad mouth a VC than a happy entrepreneur is to write a positive review. But if you compare that with some of the Silicon Valey VCs the delta is pretty large:

  • Draper Richards: 4.2
  • Sequoia Capital: 4.1
  • Mayfield Fund: 4.0
  • Trinity Ventures: 3.9

    Are you an entrepreneur in Seattle that has raised or is in talks about raising money? Register on The Funded and start rating some VCs.

Re-branding Seattle 2.0

By Marcelo Calbucci

    It comes a point on every website life that it needs a re-branding. And sometimes, the sooner you do it, the better it is.

    Seattle 2.0 is just about 9 weeks old and I didn't know what it was going to become. Since I've been reading a ton of Marketing books on branding, positioning and image, I just learned something new and I need to practice it.

    Starting today we are re-positioning Seattle 2.0 from being all things "Web 2.0", all things "startup" and all things "entrepreneur" to being a site from Entrepreneurs to Entrepreneurs on the technology field in the Seattle area.

    Here is the new tentative tagline:

"Helping Entrepreneurs build the next great tech business"

    If you have other ideas send it to me (or leave a comment).

    For now, the list of things that we will talk about will be:

  • Events for Entrepreneurs and Startups in Seattle;
  • Jobs and funding opportunities for Entrepreneurs;
  • Announcements from Startups / Entrepreneurs;
  • Resources for entrepreneurs (from book recommendation to list of VCs to list of sites with great content for entrepreneurs)
  • Stories from the battlefield;
  • Networking opportunities;

    Maybe someday we will have a new logo (any designer willing to do some pro-bono?) and a new layout.

    For now, I'm looking for 1, 2 or 3 other entrepreneurs that want to participate on the Seattle 2.0 blog.

Turning off Job Posts on RSS Feeds

By Marcelo Calbucci

    I decided it would be better to turn off Job Posts on RSS Feeds. It was creating too much noise and obscuring our blog posts.

    If you want to check the latest job posts you can visit the site directly or subscribe to Jobster RSS feed.
