SSI: Seattle Startup Index (August/2007 edition)

 

    We are doing some big changes this month. Instead of using the Alexa Ranking alone, we are also using Compete, as many of you have requested. The idea is that if you get an unreliable stats systems and take the average with an undependable one, things will be much... 

 

    The new list is now ordered by the average of the Alexa and Compete ranking. Because of the shift in how we compute things, some companies moving up or down the list doesn't mean much. Although, some companies had some pretty amazing improvements, like Bill Monk, and some had a very steep decline, like ReelTime.

 

    The SSI50 is also changing. Before it was the average of the top 50 Alexa rankings, and now it'll be the average of the top 50 averages between Compete and Alexa (uh?).

 

    Old-style SSI50 for August: 49,260 (5,528 )

 

    New SSI50: 42,464

 

    It looks like summer is over and the Seattle startups are back at the growing track!
